起點是因為我們要消滅無聊

Once I found that our designers wasted a lot of time in creating new patterns of the apps since they weren’t familiar with the official design guidelines. I and my colleague Jennie decided to host a crazy workshop to guide the designers and engineers of the guidelines.

身為UX/UI設計師,iOS, Android, Windows的Design guildelines之基礎,就像注音符號教本一樣必讀,諳熟平台的設計法則,才能在慣例上創造變化而不牴觸基本原則。然而其繁多的內容,真正認真消化完的設計師可能寥寥無幾。

Jennie和我發現設計師們因為不熟悉指南,而浪費太多時間在創造新的模組。我們決定辦設計準則導讀會,為設計師同事們導讀iOS 9和Android L設計準則的精華。

既然是設計師,就讓我們用設計過的方法學習。

我和我的夥伴Jennie決定要來辦一場歡樂的設計準則工作坊。

Team building

分組對抗,是讓參與者動起來的必勝法則。

公司15個夥伴(UX, UI, Intern, Director)混合分成兩隊,取隊名隊呼,準備好計分幣

結果他們一組叫做辛拉麵,一組叫做王子麵。

We know the competition always makes people excited! The colleagues were separated into 2 teams, and they were asked to create their own team spirit slogan.
One team named "Kimchi noodles" while another team named "Prince instant noodle"

準備好,讓我們來聽個小故事 - 故事是工作坊情境營造的最佳方法。

After the team building, let's watch a story -
An intriguing story is always the best way to create the immersive atmosphere and invite the attendee to join the journey.

How to make a good robot?

我們把iOS 9和Android L設計準則擬人化,分成9個單元。每個單元都並列兩個平台,深入淺出介紹。

The serious guidelines were humanized in our story. To build a best iOS/Android robot, we need to understand their personality, habits, behaviors, appearance, and body structures. This information was classified into 9 chapters.

Gamification

在這9個單元中,每隔幾個單元,穿插了小組對抗賽時間,考考設計師們對機器人們有多熟悉。
儘管只是個小對抗賽,但是大家不停向主持人大呼小叫地回報,拼得你死我活的樣子好像在爭奪一百萬一樣,主持人笑得樂不可支啊!

During the workshop, we designed some games time to let them use the knowledge they learned to work with the teammate to beat the competitor. It was super crazy and fierce!

Award

最後,我們頒發獎品給優勝隊伍。獎品是一袋紅蘋果和一袋Kitkat巧克力!

The winner got a bag of the apples and KitKat (Android system)!

Result and reflection

我總是想要把每一件事情都變得很好玩。
工作坊正好是這樣,用設計人的精神把生活中平凡不過的事變得不一樣,把一種東西包裝成另一個樣子,「玩」是人類最自然的本能,「競爭」則是人類進步最原始的驅動。經過這一場工作坊,夥伴更知道如何運用同一種語言,使用正確的pattern來降低溝通與工作的成本。

謝謝好夥伴Jennie和我熬夜想出來的東西,還有一群愛玩的夥伴捧場,這樣玩下來,連自己都忘不了Design guidelines了

I always try to make everything fun.
We took advantage of the 2 factors: "Play" is the human nature, "competition" is the drive of the progress.
By creating an immersive storyline, grouping attendees into two groups to compete with each other in different challenges games, we finally turned the normal lecture to a very crazy workshop that everyone enjoyed very much. It acknowledged them on how to use the appropriate patterns instead of inventing a new tire to reduce the cost of communication and design efforts. Both engineers and designers were benefited from this workshop.
This is how the UXers should live a life - make everything UX, make everything fun, make everything unique! Thanks to my partner Jennie.
